Played in his honour | THE DAILY HERALD

The sudden death of Curaçao’s reserve goalkeeper Jarzinho Pieter (31) Monday morning while at the Marriott Port-au-Prince Hotel with the national soccer team to play Haiti, has shocked the entire selection.

“Federashon di Futbòl Kòrsou” (FFK) chairman Rignaal “Jean” Francisca said they were getting support from professional caregivers of the host country and the Dutch Kingdom’s consulate. Pieters did not feel well late Sunday night at about 3:00am and was checked by team doctor Wallid Elhage. He then went back to sleep and never woke up. Local authorities say the player died of a heart seizure, but police have nevertheless started an investigation. The Concacaf Nations League game was still played Tuesday evening with a minute silence in memory of the deceased and ended in a 1-1 draw.
