PHILIPSBURG–Prime Minister Leona Romeo Marlin has sent a letter conveying her dismay at the loss of life and the devastation caused by the passing of Hurricane Dorian to Prime Minister of the Bahamas, Dr. Hubert A. Minnis.
“In 2017, there was an outpouring of support from our Caribbean brothers and sisters that helped to bolster our common regional spirit. As Prime Minister, I am very much aware of the challenges of leadership, which are only augmented by such catastrophic natural disasters. I offer to you and your people the same hope for strength, focus and perseverance during the upcoming recovery and reconstruction period,” Romeo-Marlin said in the letter.
After watching the many newscasts and social media posts of the destruction in the Bahamas, Romeo-Marlin is also calling on the St. Maarten public to consider contributing to the immediate emergency relief efforts wherever possible.
“On behalf of the people of St. Maarten, we will continue to pray for the victims and their families and hope for much strength and resilience to ensure a quick recovery of the people and the government of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas after the passing of Hurricane Dorian.”
The storm has sofar claimed five live.
