Poachers found in Marine Park, seized fish donated to WYCF

COLE BAY–Nature Foundation intercepted the vessel Oyster, registration number SX1438, poaching in Man of War Shoal National Marine Park close to the “Mike’s Maze” dive site. The illegally-caught fish were seized and donated to the White and Yellow Cross Foundation (WYCF) by Nature Foundation. No fishing is allowed in the Marine Park.
The case is in the hands of law enforcement officials.

Dive Adventures alerted Nature Foundation to the illegal fishing expedition.
The Spanish-speaking fishermen were approached, but did not comply with the Nature Foundation staff’s instructions. The vessel left the area, but was followed by the Marine Park patrol vessel and the fishermen were met by police officers and the Coast Guard.
As the legally mandated management authority for Man of War Shoal Marine Park, the Nature Foundation regularly patrols the area and has authority to respond to illegal activities in the Marine Park.
The Nature Foundation has a close working relationship with fishermen in relation to Man of War Shoal Marine Park and wants this to continue. “However, if we notice illegal activities within the Marine Park those will be addressed,” cited a Nature Foundation statement.
