PHILIPSBURG–The St. Maarten Police Force KPSM recently arrested three persons in two separate incidents for possession of a stolen vehicle.
In the first incident, police arrested T.H. and F.B.L. around 5:00pm Wednesday, May 13, for driving a Hyundai Grand i-10 that was reported stolen.
When officers conducted a search of one of the suspects, they also found a quantity of marijuana in his possession. Officers confiscated the marijuana.
- and L. are being held at the Philipsburg police station pending further investigation.
In the second incident, officers stopped the driver of a Kia Sportage on W.J.A. Nisbeth Road (Pondfill) on Thursday afternoon, May 14.
“During inspection of the vehicle, the officers became aware that the VIN [Vehicle Identification Number – Ed.] was tampered with and certain parts of the vehicle were changed,” said police in a press release on Thursday night.
Police arrested the driver A.W. and he was taken to the Philipsburg police station, where he is being held for questioning.
“The police will be intensifying these types of controls in the future,” said police.
Justice Minister Anna Richardson had said on Wednesday that the Police Force would make preventing car thefts a priority in the first phase of its de-escalation plan. The first phase of this plan is already in effect, she said.
