PHILIPSBURG–Police arrested two young men who they believe were part of a group of men who broke into Boolchand’s after the passing of Hurricane Irma on September 6.
The arrest took place on Tuesday morning, based on a video posted on social media showing a group of youngsters forcing their way into the popular Front Street store.
“This store did not suffer damage during the hurricane and was totally intact when this daylight break-in took place. This video is circulating and is being used as part of the investigation to identify all suspects involved in this break-in,” said police spokesman Chief Inspector Ricardo Henson in a press release on Tuesday night.
A considerable amount of jewellery was found and confiscated during searches at the homes of the suspects in the Hope Estate and Over the Bank areas. Both suspects remain in custody at the police headquarters in Philipsburg for further investigation and questioning.
