ST. EUSTATIUS–Bethel Methodist School held a Career Day event on Friday, October 25, during which visitors were able to discern what the young pupils wished to choose as their future occupation. Children ranging in age from three years were dressed in outfits depicting what career they wished to pursue.

Children were dressed as police officers, doctors, astronauts, professional soccer player, marines, businesspeople and many other careers

This was the first career day for Methodist School principal Jarmila Wilson-Berkel, who was dressed in camouflage gear depicting a member of the armed forces. Teachers were also decked out in various outfits, such as a chef, construction workers, nurses and firefighters.

The school invited persons with careers in medicine, business, education, emergency services, tourism and other fields to visit classrooms as guest-speakers and give their first-hand accounts of what they have experienced in their careers. They also gave some background information on their educational paths.

The children displayed their outfits to one and all, any many of them told the reason why they had chosen a particular outfit for Career Day. Some said they were inspired by a parent or a role model in their lives and wished to follow that educational and career path.

Reverend Vincia Celestine, who also visited the Career Day, was dressed in an outfit from her home country Dominica.

Director of the St. Eustatius Historical Foundation’s Simon Doncker Club and museum tour guide Misha Spanner was also on hand. She imparted some information to the pupils about the history of St. Eustatius and invited them to visit the museum and see first-hand some of Statia’s treasures and artefacts that tell the story about Statia’s history. These artefacts were found on land and in the ocean.
