ST. EUSTATIUS–“Do you have the guts, we have the job” is the appeal this week from the Caribbean Netherlands Police Force KPCN, which is conducting a job-recruitment campaign in St. Eustatius. Local interest in the Police vacancies prompted an extra communication session on Tuesday.
The Force is looking for 10 trainee police officers and according to Police Human Resources Advisor Monique van Maalsen they are “calling for young people with a calling for a challenging, exciting and rewarding occupation.”
Van Maalsen explains that the recruitment drive is interested in young people ages 17 years and older, who have an MBO diploma.
“Successful candidates will have to undergo a variety of psychological, physical, medical and sports tests,” she explained. “They will then attend our Police School in Curaçao for two years, and then wear our badge with great pride, integrity and professionalism.”
Van Maalsen said the Force is looking for candidates with outstanding competencies: “We employ about 95 officers in Bonaire, Statia and Saba. We are looking for young people with enterprise, decisiveness, perseverance, role awareness, stress resistance, good communication skills, team spirit and flexibility.”
She also underlines the “fascinating” role of the Force and the financial rewards. Police School trainees will earn at least a gross salary of US $1,340 per month.
“Our trainees will learn a million things and most important in all that learning is a respect for the community which they are safeguarding.”
Police Inspector Robelto Hodge has served on Statia since 1998. “Since 10-10-10, our Police Force has become modern and highly trained. I recommend every exciting moment of our mission within the community,” he said.
