ROTTERDAM--Police in Rotterdam have detained three people who were found near a parked car with Belgian license plates.
The city's mayor, one of the country's most prominent Muslims, was escorted out of a nearby restaurant as a precaution. Spokeswoman Dorien Karremans says the car "gave officers reason to further investigate." She declined to elaborate on why the car was treated as suspicious and had no information on the identities of the three people detained by police.
Karremans says police are extra alert in the aftermath of last Friday's deadly terror attacks in Paris.
Police closed off the road where the car was parked Wednesday night.
