Police investigate three robberies

PHILIPSBURG–The Special Robbery Unit is investigating three armed robberies that took place between December 28, 2016, and January 2.

The first one took place at Fu Yuan Supermarket on December 28, 2016, at approximately 7:00pm. A lone suspect armed with a handgun stormed into the establishment, threatened the cashier with his weapon and forced him to open the cash register.

The suspect then took an undisclosed amount of cash from the register and took the belongings of the cashier. He then fled the scene on foot.

The second robbery took place in the vicinity of ENNIA Insurances on Walter Nisbeth Road on December 29, 2016, at approximately 8:15am. According to the victim, he was standing outside the establishment when he was suddenly approached by two unknown men who verbally threatened him and demanded that he surrender his handbag.

The victim handed one of the men the bag, but the other suspect struck him on his head with an unknown object. As a result of this blow, the victim suffered a wound to his head and had to be taken to St. Maarten Medical Center for treatment. After committing this act the suspects fled the scene.

The third robbery took place at Welcome Supermarket in Cole Bay on Friday, December 30, 2016, at approximately 7:50pm. Two unknown masked men dressed in dark clothing, each armed with a handgun, stormed into the establishment, threatened the cashier, forced him to open the cash register and took the money. After committing this act, the suspects fled on foot.

The Special Robbery Unit is asking anyone who may have information about any of these cases to get in contact with the Detective Department at 542-2222, ext. 214/215.
