Police investigating 2 armed robberies

 PHILIPSBURG–The Police Robbery Unit is investigating two armed robberies that took place in the Cole Bay/Simpson Bay area.

The first robbery took place in the vicinity of Topper’s close to Kim Sha Beach at 4:00am Saturday.

According to the police report on Monday, two men arrived on the scene in a SUV with a French licence plate. The passenger stepped out of the vehicle and approached a couple who were parked in the area and threatened both occupants with a gun. He demanded that they exit the vehicle, which they did. The suspect stepped into the victims’ vehicle, fired a shot from his gun and he fled the scene with the stolen vehicle in the direction of the French side. No one was injured, according to reports.

Detectives and the Forensic Department were on scene talking to witnesses and collecting evidence.

The second robbery took place at Jasmin Chinese Restaurant on Welfare Road at 9:30pm the same day.

According to the manager, an unknown man dressed in dark clothing with a hoody covering his head stormed into the building with a handgun around closing time. The robber threatened a client with his gun, robbed him of his personal belongings, then went behind the counter and stole an undisclosed amount from the cash register. After committing this act the robber fled the scene on foot in the direction of Cole Bay.

The police are investigating both cases.
