SUCKER GARDEN–Positivity and beauty in the place of depression and defacement were the goals of the “Turning the Page” project initiated by Police Officers Sharetti Hooi and Lavell Wilson.
They kicked off the project at the crossing of Arch Road/Soualiga Road, next to Johnnies 2 Supermarket. There, two containers were spray painted with the words: “R.I.P. Gamali how life turn out to be. We sorry.” The two containers were painted on Saturday.
The officers wanted to remove the graffiti and replace it, in the next phase, with a beautiful drawing and no loitering and littering signs along with garbage bins provided by the Ministry of Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment and Infrastructure VROMI.
The project was inspired by Police Officer Gamali Benjamin who lost his life in the line of duty and is being guided by Community Police Officer Inspector Helen Romeo.
The officers received cooperation from Jocelyn Arrindell, Leroy La Paix, Eugene Heyliger, Rafael Arrindell, Zabion Arrindell, management of Johnnie’s 2 Supermarket, VROMI and other volunteers. Paint and other materials were provided by Sucker Garden Community Center.
