PHILIPSBURG–The St. Maarten Police Force KPSM has announced it will be restarting its “Cops and Kids” programme in primary schools for school year 2019/2020. This is “an ongoing effort to bridge the gap” between police and primary school pupils, said police on Wednesday.
The programme is being led by Community Police Officers (CPOs).
“The presence of the police in the school as a part of the school community indirectly lends to modifying undesirable behaviour, and opens up valuable lines of communication. The programme offers the CPOs a platform to invest in the students of their respective districts,” said police in a press release.
The first part of the programme, called “One on One,” was launched at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Primary School, Sister Borgia Primary School and Sister Regina Primary School on Tuesday, November 5, and Wednesday, November 6. The participating CPOs were Inspectors Shawn Crispulo, Arcella Leonard, Ethelwoldus Josepha, and Steven Carty and Officer Angelo Blijden.
In “One on one,” pupils submitted questions to the CPOs regarding the tasks of the Police Force. These were addressed at the different schools, said police on Wednesday.
