PHILIPSBURG–The Police Force of St. Maarten thanks the public for a safe conclusion of the 2018 Carnival season. Police said on Friday that despite a few minor incidents throughout the season, it was overall a “dormant Carnival season” stated police.
The police also thanked the St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation (SCDF) for its cooperation during the 2018 Carnival season.
“We are looking forward to 50 years of Carnival in 2019. We would also like to remind the public that although Carnival is over crime is still evident and one should always be vigilant and remember the 3 A’s of Crime Prevention: Be Aware of your surroundings at all times. Be Alert to suspicious people and vehicles. Avoid dangerous situations.
“If you are leaving home and out for the evening turn on lights, radio or television so that it looks like someone is at home; lock all doors and windows well; don’t display items where they can be seen from the outside; park your car in a well-lit area; avoid carrying a large amount of cash; and pay close attention to the people around. When returning to your vehicle or your home, have your keys in your hands ready to open the door.
“Ask your neighbour to keep a watchful eye out for you and do not drink and drive,” stated police on Friday.
