PHILIPSBURG–The Electoral Council reminds all prospective political parties that participation in the February 26, 2018, parliamentary election requires an application for the registration of the party and its reference with the Council no later than Thursday, November 23.
According to Article 16 of the National Ordinance on Registration and Finances of Political Parties, a new party must submit a written application to register the party with the Electoral Council.
Together with the application for registration of the political party, the following documents should be submitted: a notarial deed containing the Articles of Association of the party, an excerpt from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, a statement containing the appointment of the party’s authorised representative and authorised deputy representative; and an application for registration of the reference which is to be placed above the list of candidates.
Failure to apply for registration by the deadline will result in the party not being able to contest the upcoming election.
In addition, the Electoral Council reminds existing political parties that wish to change the previously registered reference above the list of candidates that they are required to do so no later than November 23.
The Council does not have a permanent office due to Hurricane Irma. It will be available to receive applications to register new political parties and/or references at the Government Building, in Conference Room I, from 2:00 to 6:00pm Thursday. No appointment is needed.
