PHILIPSBURG--High-ranking officials of Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIA) and Port St. Maarten met last week to discuss infrastructural developments at the country’s two main points of entry, especially in relation to the homeporting of cruise ship Celebrity Millennium, which is set to begin on June 5.
Last week’s meeting was a follow-up on a similar meeting held between the two entities on April 9.
“There is a more challenging responsibility with the starting and ending point for a cruise vessel. [We – Ed.] will be required to provide more comprehensive services because the first entry point [to the country for homeporting passengers] will be through the airport,” said PJIA operating company PJIAE chief operations officer (COO) Michel Hyman. “[We] will do our utmost to ensure that there is a seamless experience for travellers.”
“The airport is vital for assuring scheduled reliability, and allowing a continuous passenger (dis)embarkation and transfer to onward journeys,” said PJIA holding company PJIAH managing director Dexter Doncher.
The two government-owned companies say they will have additional meetings surrounding homeporting soon.
