Port St. Maarten delegation meets with FCCA Operations Committee.
PORT–Port St. Maarten’s Cruise Business Unit met recently in separate sessions with representatives of several cruise lines and the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) Operations Committee about the first cruise ship calls and an update on the post-Hurricane Irma recovery process.
The Operations Committee plans to visit St. Maarten in early 2018 to meet stakeholders and continue discussions about the country’s recovery. The Port business unit will continue to meet with cruise line executives in January.
“Cruise lines are anxious to return to the island,” the Port said in a press statement issued Tuesday. It added that it will continue to use opportunities provided “to reinvent the cruise product.”
The team shared photos and video footage of the activities and experiences of cruise passengers from the first two post-hurricane cruise-ship calls at this second meeting with the FCCA Operations Committee. Port representatives also reiterated to FCCA and cruise lines that the destination is “open for business.”
The committee, headed by FCCA President Michele Paige, indicated it was “very impressed” with the country’s progress and efforts to get the destination ready for the first cruise-ship calls.
The Port said it was important to maintain a close relationship and have regular consultations with FCCA. FCCA and cruise partners welcomed this approach.
