USA MSC Vice-President Operations Albino di Lorenzo, Port Business Development and Marketing Manager Alexander Gumbs, MSC USA Chairman Rick Sasson, Minister Stuart Johnson, FCCA President Michele Paige and Port Corporate Officer Lela Simmonds.

PORT–Port St. Maarten received the “Caribbean for Everyone” award during the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) Platinum Associate Membership Advisory Council (PAMAC) Cruise Summit.

“Once again, we have been recognised for all our hard work. This hard work is not only of the port, but also of all stakeholders throughout the country who have been working very diligently during the recovery effort,” said Port management. “The message from cruise executives was: we are the destination of choice and not a destination that is part of the trip.”

Tourism and Economic Affairs Minister Stuart Johnson said that due to the stewardship at Port St. Maarten and the hard work of all stakeholders, the destination has been recognised by the cruise industry for providing cruise passengers with a memorable experience.

MSC Seaside brought cruise summit attendees to St. Maarten on Wednesday. One of the first FCCA Platinum Members, Robert “Bobby” Velasquez of Bobby’s Marina, sponsored a tour on board La Nina, one of his company’s tour boats.

The seven-day cruise summit entailed meetings, workshops and networking events  on industry trends and standards, and developing relationships and mutual benefits for the cruise lines and members’ companies and destinations.

The cruise summit will also visit Puerto Rico, St. Thomas and the Bahamas.
