PORT–Port St. Maarten was chosen by a community of seasoned cruisers in the 2018 Cruiseline.com Member’s Choice Best Destinations as the #1 Best Caribbean Port 2018.
Runners-up were Curaçao (number two), Mexico (three), St. Thomas (four), and Aruba (five).
Cruiseline.com is a community of one million plus members, has more than 8.1 million unique visitors, more than 760,000 email subscribers, receives more than 147,000 cruise reviews, and has more than half a million traveller photos.
Port St. Maarten received an accolade in July as one of the top ports of call in Cruise Critic Cruisers’ Choice 2018 top-five-rated Eastern Caribbean, Bahamas & Bermuda Destinations awards despite Hurricanes Irma and Maria in September 2017.
The Cruise Critic Annual Cruisers’ Choice Destination Awards, name the world’s top cruise destinations, based entirely on consumer ratings submitted with reviews on CruiseCritic.com. The awards name the top cruise destinations across 15 regions worldwide.
“Due to the hard work, diligence and determination towards our visitors, the destination once again reaps the fruits of its hard work,” said Tourism and Economic Affairs Minister Stuart Johnson in a press statement on Friday. This accolade is a result of the contributions of the St. Maarten people in “making our visitors have memorable experiences while on a cruise to the destination.”
Port management said that once again the destination has been identified and favoured by cruise travellers as destination of choice. “We are creating and contributing to memorable experiences for cruise passengers as they rediscover our destination.”
The destination continues to make a strong recovery, which was signified by surpassing the one-millionth-cruise-passenger milestone for 2018 last week. The 2018-2019 cruise season is just weeks away.
“Our tourism partners and stakeholders have all worked diligently post-Irma/Maria to bring back our island #SXM Strong. We can all be proud of what we have all accomplished together at this stage, one year after the 2017 hurricanes,” said the Port.
