PHILIPSBURG–Posh Productions has established a partnership with several schools in St. Maarten. The Junior and Teen Carnival Queen pageants have been enhanced to be complemented by King competitions. Thus, each participating school has identified a King and Queen to represent the institution at the upcoming pageants on March 31.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Primary School registered King and Queen representative, while a King and Queen attending a Methodist Agogic Centre (MAC) school independently registered to take part in the Junior Carnival King and Queen pageant. Secondary institutions such as Sundial School, St. Maarten Academy and St. Maarten Vocational Training School (SMVTS) all registered representatives to compete on the Teen tier pageants.

The contestants, school directors and parents are all excited about this new partnership between Posh and the schools. Directors have expressed the magnitude of talent the students have with very few platforms for these talents to be showcased. As such, the schools and Posh are in discussions to have each school host an annual intra-school pageant, from which the winners will then advance to represent their respective schools on the national level with Posh Productions.

This year’s contestants are: MLK Queen Josianne Browne and King Isiah Hodge; MAC King Nehemiah Somersall and Queen Jade Jelly; Sundial School King Manukiell Edwards and Queen Sharees Thomas; St. Maarten Academy King Rahiem Fleming and Queen Shaneisha Robinson; SMVTS Queen Roumelta Gumbs; and Sundial School/MPC Troy Florent.

The students call for all their peers to come out on the night of the shows to give them support and represent their school colours. The Teen contestants will compete in Interview Debate competition at the Belair Community Centre on Sunday, March 24. Thereafter, both tiers will compete in sportswear at the third edition of the Healthy-Body Sportswear and Swimsuit Competition on Friday, March 29. The main pageant will take place at Emilio Wilson Park on Sunday, March 31.
