Préfecture advises to party responsibly this weekend | THE DAILY HERALD

MARIGOT–The Préfecture is advising the French-speaking population to celebrate responsibly on Sunday, especially on the roads, should France win the 2018 Football World Cup.

In view of Bastille Day today, and the World Cup final on Sunday, the Préfecture is calling for vigilance and caution at large gatherings supporting the France team over these two days of festivities where alcohol will undoubtedly be consumed.

As a reminder, since the beginning of the year there have been 34 accidents in St. Martin and St. Barths that resulted in 39 injuries and six deaths.

Due to these statistics the Gendarmerie will be conducting traffic controls over the weekend, looking out for excessive alcohol consumption and drug use, and controlling riders of two-wheeled vehicles not wearing helmets.

In addition, the Gendarmerie will be deploying extra Gendarmes, as well as emergency response assistance around the festivities over the weekend.
The services of the State are mobilised and counting on everyone behaving responsibly.
