President Gibbs saddened by Aline Hanson’s passing

MARIGOT–Territorial Council President Daniel Gibbs issued a statement last night reacting to the death of former President Aline Hanson.

“I was deeply saddened to hear President Aline Hanson left us today,” he said. “She held the reins of the Collectivité until the end of her term despite her illness. She fought to the end, demonstrating great courage. We can all be proud of her career and her commitment to St. Martin. Our territory has lost a great lady. Tonight I pay tribute to a President and the woman who she was, and I thank her on behalf of all St. Martiners.

“She was a woman of conviction, deeply human, who dedicated her life to her country, first as a teacher, then a Principal, and through her work in the community for which she was rewarded several times.

“She had considerable achievements in her chosen field of education which have benefited the community today. Her generosity, her humanitarian nature, her strong personality, have left an indelible mark on the history of St. Martin.

“I’ve always had a very high regard for the President, who has been my teacher. That is something you never forget. I’ve always admired her tenacity and strength of character. She loved St. Martin deeply and especially the youth of the territory for whom she invested much of her work.

“Tonight, my emotional thoughts are with her daughter Leela, her grandchildren and all members of her family. I address my sincere condolences and my support on my own behalf, but also on behalf of my four Vice-Presidents, Territorial Councillors, and staff of the Collectivité who are very much affected by this loss. Goodbye, Madame President. You will remain in our hearts, we will not forget you.”
