MARIGOT—Fist Vice-President of the Collectivité Valerie Damaseau received on Sunday, September 17, the Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit and his delegation in Hotel de la Collectivité.
Vice-President Steven Patrick and Territorial Councillors Jean-Raymond Benjamin, Ambroise Lake, and Opposition Councillor Louis Mussington were also present. The Prime Minister was accompanied by Minister of Planning, Economic Development and Investment Dr. Colin John McInytyre and his Director of Disaster Management Cecil Shillingford.
The purpose of the visit was for the Prime Minister to express in person his heartfelt solidarity with the Governments of French St. Martin and Sint Maarten on behalf of his government after the passage of Hurricane Irma.
The delegation began its visit in the morning on the Dutch side and continued on the French side in the afternoon. During his meeting with Collectivité officials Prime Minister Skerrit informed Vice-President Damaseau that his government is committed to sending St. Maarten and St. Martin potable water and agricultural products. Several barges have been chartered for that purpose and will be leaving Dominica once the weather permits a safe passage.
The elected officials of the Collectivité took the Prime Minister and his delegation on a tour of the French side to see the scale of the damage.
