ANGUILLA–A prison officer from Her Majesty’s Prison was shot while walking in The Valley near to Omega Car Wash early on Monday, August 28. The Royal Anguilla Police Force (RAPF) was called to the scene and an investigation is taking place.

The victim, Rondel Kyte of The Valley, was walking near the Car Wash when he was approached by two men, one of whom shot him, causing injury. Kyle is currently at Princess Alexandra Hospital. His injuries are not life-threatening and a Family Liaison Officer has been appointed to him.

Governor Tim Foy, Deputy Governor Perin Bradley and Permanent Secretary Foster Rogers visited Kyle and offered best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Governor Foy has condemned the attack as a cowardly act on a defenceless officer and said such attacks will not be tolerated in Anguilla, as they undermine the very fabric of society. He expressed thanks to the staff at the Prison and the RAPF for their continued commitment in keeping Anguilla safe.

One of the suspected assailants is at The Valley police station assisting police with the investigation. The police are appealing for any witnesses who were in the area at the time to come forward.
