WILLEMSTAD–The Prosecutor’s Office in Curaçao has initiated an investigation into a comment on Facebook after a tragic accident on December 20, in which a motorcyclist died. This comment was posted from a private Facebook account of prosecution spokesman Norman Serphos.
Serphos reported the fact that his account had been hacked immediately after he saw the fake comment. The criminal investigation department is now looking into the incident.
Two of the victim’s relatives along with a journalist visited the Chief Prosecutor and officially filed a complaint against Serphos. On behalf of the Prosecutor’s Office, the Chief Prosecutor expressed his condolences to the family who were already having a difficult time during this period.
The investigation by the Police Corps and Kingdom Detective Cooperation Team RST will be completed as soon as possible.
“The prosecution together with the police will continue to work to find out what really took place. As soon as the results of the investigation are in, the Prosecutor’s Office will announce this. It will also be announced what steps the Public Prosecution Service will take against the person guilty of posting these comments.”
