Public Accounts Committee benefits from UK attachment

ANGUILLA–Lucia Wilson, Clerk of the Northern Ireland Assembly Public Accounts Committee, has just completed a two-week attachment to Anguilla House of Assembly Public Accounts Committee (PAC). It is part of a three-year project by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association in partnership with the UK National Audit Office that aims to strengthen the capacity and oversight of public finances in the Overseas Territories. It is funded by the UK Government. The chair of the Public Accounts Committee in Anguilla is Leader of the Opposition Palmavon Webster, who requested support to assist the committee here.

She commented that the recent attachment has set in place a sound basis for a supportive working relationship based on mutual learning that will certainly benefit the Anguilla Public Accounts Committee. Wilson’s attachment is one of a series of activities to provide expertise and mentoring support to PAC in its oversight of public finances in Anguilla.

  Wilson met with the Committee several times, and gave day-to-day support to Lennox Proctor, Clerk to PAC.  She helped the Committee to establish effective processes for conducting inquiries from preparation through to follow-up, and assisting with the development of the work schedule for the Committee.
