ANGUILLA–A bomb threat exercise has ensured that officials in Anguilla are better prepared. Twenty officers drawn from the agencies of the government of Anguilla, statutory bodies and the private sector, benefited from a Bomb Threat/Suspicious package Table-top Exercise last week.
The exercise formed part of the National Disaster Management Committee’s 2018 work plan and was coordinated by the Department of Disaster Management. The facilitator was Commissioner of Police, Paul Morrison. Two scenarios were given to participants, followed by several timed injects and discussion questions. It was a four-hour exercise under the theme “Just Cause.”
The purpose of this exercise was to assess capabilities to respond to and recover
from a bomb threat in accordance with established plans. The exercise included revealing weaknesses and strengths in plans and procedures, clarifying roles and responsibilities in the event of a bomb threat, demonstrating the ability to activate incident command, assessing emergency procedures for contacting the police and emergency services, and communication to the public.
Morrison said, “The exercise serves as an important purpose in the wake of changes in the world and Anguilla needs to be vigilant and ready to respond in the event of such threats as response time is paramount in these types of situations.”
The exercise included officers from the Royal Anguilla Police Force; Anguilla Fire and Rescue Services; Anguilla Air and Seaport Authority; General Post Office; Departments of Treasury, Inland Revenue, Immigration, Labour and Disaster Management; Anguilla Social Security Board and utilities company ANGLEC.
