Public Entity Saba trains BavPol cadets | THE DAILY HERALD

SABA–Some employees of the Public Entity Saba were recently trained to become involved in law enforcement. They took the so-called BavPol course for extraordinary police officers (“buitengewoon ambtenaar van politie”). In the upcoming weeks, they are expected to be officially appointed.

The Public Entity then has its own personnel to enforce the local ordinance and hygiene regulations. The BavPol officials will have the ability to take administrative measures and hand out fines based on the criminal law.

The Caribbean Netherlands Police Force KPCN is also still tasked with ensuring that the local ordinance is upheld.

The new officials will grow slowly into their role. For example, one of them started with car wreck removal and parking regulations in Windwardside in the parking lot in front of the Tourist Office.

The other enforcers will strengthen the Hygiene Department in ensuring that businesses are following the applicable hygiene codes. These checks were already in progress, but now the Public Entity will have more instruments to ensure compliance.

The Public Entity will inform the public every time enforcement will start on another topic of the local ordinance or where hygiene control is concerned. In time, the new enforcers will be responsible for enforcing various aspects of the local ordinance, and of traffic regulations and hygiene codes, according to the Public Entity.
