MARIGOT–President Daniel Gibbs is reminding the public how important it is for everybody to participate in the public enquiry phase on the application of the anticipated Natural Risk Prevention Plan PPRN for St. Martin.
The public enquiry is a major step required in order for the State to approve this new document on natural hazards. The public enquiry is open until October 31.
Gibbs gave the reasons why there must be massive participation in the public survey: “because it is crucial for our future and for our territory; because it is essential at this stage to make our voices heard; because, last July 17, the Territorial Council which represents the population of St. Martin and its economic actors, gave a unanimous opinion against the anticipated application of the PPRN.
“The Collectivité has been overwhelmingly supported in its approach by the parliamentarians, the Chamber of Commerce of St. Martin CCISM, the Economic, Social and Cultural Council of St. Martin CESC, the District Councils, the associations of co-owners and professional federations, because, by rejecting this version of the PPRN we have expressed our strong will to build with the State an acceptable plan, taking into account both the safety of the inhabitants and the future development of these coastal areas with high socio-economic potential.
“Together we are requesting a postponement of the implementation of the PPRN to allow time for a broader consultation with inhabitants and socio-economic actors and to propose a revised PPRN that is better designed and adapted to our realities.
“I invite you to meet the investigating commissioners and share with them your suggestions and counter-proposals in the public enquiry register that has been opened for this purpose in the Préfecture at the following times: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at 8:00am and 1:00pm to 4:30pm; and Wednesday and Friday between 8:00am and 1:00pm.
