SYNOPSIS: 

Patches of low level moisture drifting with the easterly trade winds will trigger some isolated showers during this forecast period.

A small craft advisory remains in effect for St. Maarten as hazardous seas will continue throughout today. Thereafter, seas will gradually subside with waves peaking near 7 feet. Nevertheless, small craft operators and coastal residents are advised to continue protecting life and property.

STATE OF THE SEA: Moderate to Rough         WAVES/SWELLS: 6 to 8 feet

SPECIAL FEATURE:  
At of 11 am Hurricane Matthew became a major hurricane (Cat 3 and above) on the Saffir-Simpson wind scale. Matthew is located about 520 miles southwest of St. Maarten and is moving west-southwest at 12 mph, with maximum sustained winds of 115 mph. Little change in strength is forecast during the next 48 hours, as it continues to move away from the local region.
