‘Question Hour’ now formally established

PHILIPSBURG–Ministers will appear before Parliament every other week as of March to answer questions about their portfolios in the recently formally established “Question Hour.”

Member of Parliament (MP) Sarah Wescot-Williams (Democratic Party) advocated for the question hour, which also exists in a similar form in the Netherlands. A change to Parliament’s Rules of Order was made and published to bring this new facet into effect.

Wescot-Williams told the press she was happy with the development as it brings more information to the people’s representatives. This avenue allows MPs to keep more abreast of the Ministers’ work and will give way to better supervision.

This is “a step in the right direction” for the legislative and executive branches of government, she said.

Although the question hour is in place, the “first encounter” is slated for early March, due to the ongoing election campaign.
