PHILIPSBURG–Based on a request from Labour Minister Emil Lee, the management of Rainforest Adventures is willing to make their customer service training programmes available to residents, even if they will not be employed at the facility. Speaking to reporters at the weekly Council of Ministers press briefing on Wednesday, Lee said the feedback he had received from Rainforest Adventures regarding its recently held job fair was positive. Management reported a good turnout and indicated that almost all of the positions that were vacant will be filled locally, with the exception of some top managerial positions due to the requirement for highly technical expertise.
On the issue of training, Lee commended the Caribbean Institute for Social Education Foundation (CIFSEF), which is the training arm of the Workers Institute for Organiser Labour (WIFOL), for its programmes to train and retrain workers to make them employable. “As Minister, I remain committed to strengthening partnerships with the business community as well as the unions to develop other training programmes that in the end will make our people more marketable and employable. I think these are all positive developments,” Lee said.
He also lauded the Department of Labour Affairs and Social Services and utilities company GEBE for its recently-signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) geared towards identifying members of the community who would enter into a GEBE training programme. The training will focus on teaching participants skills required to make them eventually employable by GEBE.
