Reason for bollards

The need to replace the stanchions along Front Street was demonstrated on Sunday, one of the first really busy cruise ship days post-Hurricane Irma.

Vehicles occupied both sidewalks, rendering stretches impassable for pedestrians and making it difficult for businesses to be accessed. The green bollards were removed by the Ministry of Infrastructure VROMI prior to Hurricane Irma in an effect to clear the sidewalks for strollers. However, the old situation for which the stanchions were placed a decade ago returned rapidly – parked vehicles.
