SIMPSON BAY–St. Maarten Regatta organisers have announced the fifth edition of the Regatta Beach Clean-Up, to be held at Kim Sha Beach in Simpson Bay on Saturday, January 14, from 9:00am to 1:00pm.
The clean-up is geared to create awareness amongst the island’s youth with regard to the impact of throwing waste into the sea, by cleaning one of the more-polluted beaches on the island in a fun and competitive way for children ages 5-18 years.
The morning will start with a 30-minute beach clean-up, where teams of three will collect as much garbage as possible and the winning team will receive a Rhino Safari-sponsored prize. The Nature Foundation will then hold a quiz about the effects of pollution on marine life and the winning team will receive a prize sponsored by Tri Sport.
The day ends with fun sports activities led by LAB Sports Academy, where the winning group will win a “Swing into Sunset” Cruise provided by Random Wind. Ice cold Fiji water will be on hand to keep everyone hydrated.
“With all these great activities, the Beach Clean-Up is a fun way for kids to meet new children, learn new things, get their community service hours and win great prizes,’’ said organiser Sacha van der Wouden. Overall winners’ prizes will be provided by Divico, Funtopia, Intertoys, Ocean Explorers, the Scuba Shop, Van Dorp and West Indies Sports Parks.
