ST. EUSTATIUS–Regular garbage collection is expected to resume after weeks of no collection on the northern side of the island.
Some residents and businesses were forced to take their trash to the St. Eustatius landfill. The issue even extended to F.D. Roosevelt Airport, where garbage piled high. Apparently, the problem was resolved as on Tuesday morning and the trash had been removed.
Part of the problem with the collection of garbage was due to the compactor of the trash vehicle being out of service.
Interim Director of Economy and Infrastructure Anthony Reid said that due to unforeseen circumstances there had been some irregular collection of garbage in some areas.
Reid assured residents and business owners that the problem has been rectified and regular collection has resumed.
In addition, he urged residents to keep their community and surroundings clean.
