Richardson calls for resignation of District Council Four board | THE DAILY HERALD

MARIGOT–The former district representative of Sandy Ground and President of Sandy Ground on the Move Insertion, Georges Richardson has called for the entire board of District Four’s Council to stand down in the wake of Cédrick André’s sudden resignation on Thursday, and for the Collectivité to have a new democratic election.

Richardson said if André had not been able to achieve what he wanted to do for the district the board was also at fault.

“I was not surprised to hear of André’s resignation. For some time now Sandy Ground has gone backwards instead of forward, ever since the Collectivité reorganised the districts,” said Richardson. “If he and his team could not get anything constructive done, they have failed.”

Richardson said André had been “hand-picked” as one of the first 11 members of each district and had not gone through “the proper channels to be the representative.”

“A new team must be installed to come up with a proper project for improvement of the district,” he insisted. “The way District Four was installed, as far as I am concerned it was a double standard. Now we have the opportunity to fix it.”

He suggested André, despite his energy, was not “patriotic” enough for the district.

“You have to separate politics from working for your people. Union has to be separated from representative. With all due respect to André for what he has achieved and his militant style of leadership that mobilises people, he has spread himself too thin in this case.

“Fighting for justice and rights of St. Martiners over the whole territory of St. Martin – that’s a lot to handle for one man. But his abilities are needed in St. Martin, don’t get me wrong.”

Although he said he had been side-lined, Richardson believes he has a track record to prove he can get things done as President of three associations in Sandy Ground, also for the simple reason he possesses a patriotic fervour for his district.

By resigning, Richardson said André now as a citizen has a free rein to fight the cause that is in the headlines most of the time: making sure St. Martiners have full input on the natural risk prevention plan PPRN.
