PHILIPSBURG –Rio Productions announced that the seventh annual Lighted Parade will take place on Saturday, August 18. The parade, which was scheduled to take place on April 7 this year, was postponed due to lack of sponsors at the time.

Rio Productions President Brenda Wathey said on Monday that Rio realised that many persons were looking forward to this year’s event. Rio Productions’ Lighted Parade has set the bar quite high and as a result it was better to delay the parade temporarily and maintain its quality, she said.

“We are preparing the event and will release more information about which artiste will be joining and performing for the parade this year,” said Wathey. With the devastation caused by the passing of Hurricane Irma, a vast majority of the sponsors, main suppliers, contributors and important stakeholders were directly affected and therefore were forced to prioritise their resources to rebuilding of their respective businesses.

For more information concerning the parade, participants are encouraged to follow Rio Productions on Facebook or visit the Rio Productions web page for more detailed information.

The Lightin’ Up de Road Parade has become a significant part of the Carnival schedule and is the unofficial kick-off to the opening of the Carnival season in St. Maarten. It is a social and cultural event that truly brings joy to the people. The demand for the parade has grown steadily over the years since the first parade was hosted in 2012.

The Lighted Parade continues to grow and to be a resounding success. With a trend of 25 per cent increase annually, the Lighted Parade 2018 is expected to show a greater increase than ever before.
