Road rampage results in two injuries, several damaged cars | THE DAILY HERALD

BELVEDERE–Two persons were injured, several were left in a state of shock and at least three vehicles were damaged in two areas when a man driving a Hyundai i10 reportedly ploughed his vehicle into unsuspecting drivers using the roadways on Wednesday afternoon.

Witnesses told The Daily Herald on the scene of the first accident that the driver of the i10, who appeared to be a young man, crossed from his lane into oncoming traffic on Bishop Hill Road and sped head-on into a Nissan Qashqai being driven by a woman whose mother and other family members were in the vehicle.

The eyewitness said the driver of the Nissan had seen the approaching vehicle in her lane and had attempted to avoid it by driving onto the shoulder of the road, but the accident could not have been avoided.

“I thought we were all going to die,” one of the visibly shaken passengers of the Nissan was overheard saying.

Two persons were injured in this accident – the driver and her mother. Both were tended to by ambulance personnel who arrived on the scene. The bumper of the i10 had fallen off and lay on the road near the crashed Nissan.

After slamming into the Nissan vehicle, the driver of the i10 sped away and later slammed into two other vehicles on Middle Region Road. Many persons gathered around the scene of the Bishop Hill Road accident, expressing disgust at what had happened and giving their opinions on what they believed to be the mental state of the driver of the i10.

Police spokesperson Chief Inspector Ricardo Henson said in a press release issued late last night that the Police Traffic Department is investigating the accidents that took place around 4:50pm on Wednesday involving several vehicles.

Henson said the first accident occurred on Bishop Hill Road and the next one on Middle Region Road. “As a result of these accidents, two persons suffered minor injuries and at least three vehicles had severe damage,” he said.

Henson said the driver of “the suspect vehicle” had been arrested on Middle Region Road and taken to the police station in Philipsburg for questioning.
