Police officers speaking to one the robbers who was shot during a robbery attempt at

Econo Food Market on Thursday evening.

PHILIPSBURG–Two armed men stormed into Econo Food Market in Cay Hill at 8:00pm Thursday with the intention of robbing the establishment. However, their plan did not go as intended; they were approached by an off-duty police officer who drew her service weapon and shot them men.

“While robbing the place, an off-duty police officer who was in the supermarket at the time saw what was going on. She immediately pulled her service firearm and confronted both suspects, shooting both of them.

“Immediately several police patrols, detectives, forensic investigators and paramedics were sent to the scene to investigate what had taken place. The area was immediately cordoned off for the forensic officers to collect evidence and detectives to speak to potential witnesses,” stated police spokesman Chief Inspector Ricardo Henson.

The suspects were treated on scene by paramedics and transported to St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) for further treatment. Their identity has not yet been established.
