ST. EUSTATIUS–A changing of the guard ceremony was held Sunday on the Boardwalk where Inspector Robelto Livingston Hodge was officially appointed as the new Chief of Basic Police Care for St. Eustatius. Chief Inspector Hodge has served the Police Force since 1998.

Present at the ceremony were Government Commissioner Mervyn Stegers, Chief of the Caribbean Netherlands Police Force KPCN Jose Rosales, outgoing Chief of Basic Police Care Maurice van Velzen, former Acting Governor Julian Woodley, as well as family members, friends, colleagues and well-wishers.

Stegers thanked Hodge for his service. A thank-you speech to outgoing chief Van Velzen was graciously done by Rosales.

Police Officer Marietza Patrick also said a few moving words and reflected on her working relationship with Chief Hodge over the years.

After being installed as Statia’s new chief Hodge recounted his many years as a police officer. He became emotional when he thanked his mother and his wife Wendy for always being there for him.

He said that his predecessor Van Velzen’s attention to detail and generosity was second to none. “I appreciate everything you have done on the job as well off the job, and I thank you,” said Hodge.
