PHILIPSBURG–Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset held its final general meeting for 2018 on December 17, during which President Jaida Nisbett presented Amanda Wever and Lotty Peterson of Diabetes Foundation of St. Maarten (DFS) with a monetary donation toward the purchase of a body mass index (BMI) machine.
DFS contacted Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset in November seeking assistance to purchase a much-needed BMI machine to assist in the weighing and documenting of patients’ information. Peterson and Wever expressed their gratitude to the club for its generous contribution, as it will expand their reach in combating the diabetes epidemic on the island.
DFS also gave a short presentation on the health risks associated with the consumption of various foods. Members of the club were given the opportunity to have the blood pressure and glucose tested at the meeting.
Present at the club’s meeting were Bart van der Meijden and Cyrille Brooks of the Mental Health Foundation (MHF), who gave a presentation on the state of mental health on the island, the role of MHF in the community, and the programmes and services MHF provides. Van Der Meijden also discussed the challenges MHF currently faces and some of its future plans.
The various committee chairpersons discussed upcoming projects for 2019 during the meeting. Fellow Rotarians Jade Maccow, Anjolie Carty and Norma Rombley were presented with their official membership pins and certificates by Nisbett and District Governor Nominee Designate Louis Wever. Wever was also presented with a certificate of appreciation for his contributions to the club as the official aide to Rotary International President Barry Rassin during Rassin’s visit to the island.
Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset expressed its gratitude to the MHF and DFS representatives for their insightful presentations and for the continued efforts in shaping the community.
