PHILIPSBURG--The Rotary Club of St. Maarten-Mid Isle hosted two editions of its Reading Under a Tree initiative on September 12 and 18, bringing more than 90 children together for outdoor reading activities.
The events were held in open-air settings where children took part in guided reading sessions, storytelling circles, singing and dancing. The activities were designed to encourage reading, imagination and curiosity while giving children an opportunity to spend time outdoors.
Rotarians, volunteers, educators and veteran educators supported the young participants throughout the sessions.
The club said the initiative forms part of its efforts to promote literacy, creativity and outdoor activities among children in St. Maarten.
The Rotary Club thanked Bernadine van Veen-Richardson, Irene Hodge, Lila Richardson, Yvette Richardson, the Sucker Garden Community Minded Leaders Foundation, St. Maarten Early Childhood Development Association (SECDA), Tony’s Air Conditioning, Didier Peterson, REMA Consultants, as well as the participating students, parents, volunteers and Rotarians for their contributions to the events.
