SABA/ST. EUSTATIUS–On the initiative of an employee, Youth Care and Family Supervision Caribbean Netherlands JGCN observed the Day of the Youth Professional in St. Eustatius and Saba August 28 to 30.
On these days, attention was paid to professionals working within the youth-care chain. The day programmes were geared towards “Local Cooperation,” during which the identity and positioning of youth professionals was discussed, but above all mutual collaboration.
Participants were representatives of the Public Entities, Mental Health Caribbean (MHC), victim support, the Caribbean Netherlands Police Force’s KPCN’s Juvenile and Vice Departments, after-school care for children between the ages of four and 18 years and paediatricians.
There were also workshops in which so-called “vision boards” were drawn up, focused on local cooperation and the future outlook.
A vision board is a tool to create focus on one goal. These boards included questions for those present, such as the role they play in youth care and what they consider most important for better and more efficient cooperation. The results were presented at the end of the workshops.
In the Netherlands, the very first Youth Professional Day was opened by Queen Máxima September 15, 2017. In the interest of the child, JGCN uses this initiative to promote cooperation in youth assistance.
This special day will also be initiated by JGCN in Bonaire on Friday, September 14, because JGCN strives for better local cooperation and to realize the best possible youth care for children on Bonaire, Statia and Saba.
