MARIGOT–Water distributor/producer SAUR said Monday it had succeeded in restoring production on two of three lines operated by the drinking water production plant and that supply should gradually return to districts, sector by sector. For the moment, priority is given to supplying the hospital and the senior citizens’ home.
According to SAUR, production is enabling the company to raise the level of the main reservoir in Galisbay and to begin the operation to supply the Mont des Accords reservoir. It added that due to reduced production capacities, SAUR teams are working to get the mobile production unit back in operation.
Due to the heavy rainfall in the last few days, the water production plant was initially affected by power cuts from Electricité de France (EDF). At the same time sea swells caused a deterioration in the quality of the pumped water.
Adding to the problems, condensation in the electrical cabinets impacted vital equipment. Water production was therefore halted for two days since Saturday, resulting in a general shutdown.
However, the public can still obtain water by going to the temporary distribution point at the plant in Galisbay.
On Monday the Collectivité decided to close all services due to the water outage. It was not known whether services will be open today, Tuesday. Child-minding facilities offered by Caisse Territorial des Oeuvres Scolaire (CTOS) and associations were also closed Monday.
One inhabitant contacted on Monday said electricity had been restored on the French side.
