PHILIPSBURG–St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation (SCDF) wants to include the public in its preparation for Carnival 2019, by opening an ideas period for Carnival’s fiftieth anniversary. SCDF also announced on Sunday that the Carnival 50 logo and schedule will be launched soon.

Carnival 2019, or “Carnival 50” as SCDF is calling it, “requires very early preparation considering the scale that the event will be,” SCDF said. “We have already started our preparations, but Carnival is a people’s festival. And as such the people should at least be able to offer some input in the golden anniversary of Carnival.”

SCDF has opened an ideas period from Sunday, June 10, until June 30. Persons who have Carnival 50 ideas about events, slogans, projects, activities, etc., should email
sxmcarnival50@gmail.com before June 30. SCDF explained that submission of an idea does not mean it will automatically be included in the way the person who submitted it intended, but it could be incorporated in some form.

“This is a voluntary effort for Carnival. There is no prize or such attached. We simply want to involve the public. We are almost ready to launch the special logo for Carnival 50 as well as the schedule for the entire Carnival season. Before we get to that point (launching of the schedule) we would like to hear from you,” SCDF said.
