PHILIPSBURG–The newly formed taskforce “Combat School Fights” held a workshop at the Philipsburg police station on Friday morning with stakeholders involved in education and youth services. The workshop was attended by representatives of St. Maarten high schools; the Prosecutor’s Office; the St. Maarten Police Force KPSM; the Inspectorate of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports (ECYS) and the Court of Guardianship.
Combat School Fights is a joint taskforce comprising police and the Prosecutor’s Office. It aims to bring stakeholders together to collectively reduce the number of school fights among St. Maarten’s youth.
During the workshop, stakeholders discussed the reasons for school fights, as well as their consequences and possible solutions. These points were debated by the various groups and the information was documented, according to a press release.
The information will be analysed and made into a report, which can later be presented to different ministries as a discussion paper, said police on Friday night.
