MARIGOT–A scooter rider died in St. Barths on Monday, April 30, after losing control of his vehicle as he sped down a hill before colliding with a stationary truck, the Gendarmerie reported.
The victim was 29 years old, from France, and had been working at one of the island’s establishments. In spite of the prompt intervention of emergency services, he passed away from his injuries.
A man was attacked in St. Martin by three men while sitting in his car at 4:00am during an incident on Monday, April 30. Two of the attackers had guns but it was not clear whether the intention was to rob the victim or settle a score. The victim ended up with a head injury and an ankle injury.
A woman was accosted by two men while she was talking on her cell phone around midnight on April 26. She refused to hand over her handbag and consequently received a blow to her head from a gun one man was carrying before the pair escaped with her bag.
Both latter incidents are under investigation. Lt. Colonel Sébastien Manzoni said that despite these latest incidents delinquency figures in general are still very favourable, particularly in regard to violence against persons and armed robberies.
