Some of the scout group members pose for a photo during a clean-up session.
MARIGOT–Association SXM Traditional Fun disclosed it has brought some 27 young people from Brussels who are helping to clean up the ponds of Chevrise, Cul-de-Sac and Le Galion Beach and helping to replant mangroves in collaboration with Conservatoire du Littoral.
The large group is from Association de Notre-Dame de l’Annonciation de Belgique and from the Federation of Catholic Guides in Belgium. The Association de Notre Dame had expressed concern about St. Martin in the aftermath of Irma and wanted to help.
The group arrived on June 29 and will depart on July 18, 2018. The visit is including exchanges with young scouts of France and students from the Lycée in La Savane. Other activities have also been organised.
The group is staying at the former Mont Vernon hotel part of which was quickly renovated to receive them by SXM Traditional Fun association’s contact, Michel Algrain.
Fondation de France, EDF Guadeloupe, Syndicate of co-proprietors of Mont Vernon, Caraiba’s Folies International and Valentino’s Pizza, are also partners in this post-Irma clean up initiative.
