Second budget change before Parliament today | THE DAILY HERALD

PHILIPSBURG–Finance Minister Perry Geerlings is due to table a second amendment to the 2018 budget in Parliament today, Wednesday.

The Central Committee meeting in Parliament House, set to start at 4:30pm, will deal with an amendment to the capital expenditures chapter of the budget.

The first amendment, passed earlier this month, related to giving Geerlings permission to contract a NAf. 167 million zero-interest loan from the Dutch government to help the local government’s liquidity post-Hurricane Irma. The second amendment will see government redirect funding to crucial projects.

Prior to the agenda point dealing with the budget change, Members of Parliament (MPs) are to vote on an amendment to the General National Ordinance on land taxes in connection with international obligations.

The parliamentary session will be carried live on St. Maarten Cable TV Channel 115, SXM GOV radio 107.9FM, Pearl Radio 98.1FM,
