ANGUILLA–The Seven Seas Water operators, who took over the supply of water to the island since October 2018, are aiming for high quality water and sufficient supplies at the reverse osmosis plant at Crocus Hill. Currently 500,000 gallons of water are produced daily but this will soon be increased to 750,000 gallons.
Chair of the Water Corporation, Christopher Richardson says he is delighted with the progress of the work at the plant that will provide most of the water for the island. The company will provide the majority of water throughout the island and to the hotels and restaurants as well. The remainder of water will come from the Valley Well Field that is operated by TSG, a company based in Anguilla.
New equipment has been installed at the plant that will improve the process. As well as removing the salt, viruses and bacteria from the sea water, calcium carbonate and other minerals are added as well as chlorine, to make the water safe and of a high quality. The capacity of the plant will be improved with larger pumps of 75 horsepower.
Richardson said that from 1,400 customers previously there are now 2,200 customers on the distribution system and more requests are being made. He said he was pleased that it will be possible to supply the people of Anguilla with up to one million gallons of water daily, but also supply the hotels and their guests as well.
The contract with Seven Seas is for 10 years and after that it will go out to bid again or the government can decide to take it over.
