PHILIPSBURG–The Supervisory Board of the Cadastre Foundation Land Registry and Mortgages announced, “with great pleasure,” that per May 1, Shaka Lake has been appointed to the position of Director of the Foundation.

Chairman of Cadastre’s Supervisory Board Louis Crastell Gumbs stated that the appointment of Lake as the new director is “a step towards improving the services provided by the Cadastre in St. Maarten,” and in bringing further innovation and professionalism.

Lake attended university in the United States and attained his Bachelor’s degree of Science in Airport Design and his Master’s degree in Aviation Safety and Management.

After his studies, he worked in the United States and returned to St. Maarten in 2005, working at the department of Civil Aviation as a staff member. He worked at the Civil Aviation permanently since 2012, where he fulfilled the position of deputy director.

Since July 2018, the Cadastre of St. Maarten has launched a process of innovation and professionalism, Gumbs stated. “As the Cadastre has the ambition to be a strong organization, [this – Ed.] forces the foundation to attract professionals to play a leading role in the growth of its public function to respond to the latest developments in our society.

An important step has been taken with the appointment of the above young, talented and dynamic director, Mr. Lake,” Gumbs said.

“The Board, Management and Staff wish him a lot of success with this step in his career and welcome him to their team,” the Chairman of the Cadastre’s Supervisory Board said.
